If you sweat excessively from your hands or feet this equipment will enable you to control and “normalise” your sweating.
The Saalio® Iontophoresis kit for excessive plantar and planar sweating provides you with a treatment which aims, within a matter of weeks, to reduce your excessive sweating dramatically. In this initial treatment period, following a similar treatment regime to that within the NHS, Iontophoresis treatment is designed to control excessive sweating.
This equipment is designed to enable you to treat excessive sweating from your hands, your feet, or, (if your condition affects both areas), will allow you to treat both hands & feet simultaneously in one treatment session.
This simple treatment could have a profound effect on your quality of life, improving social & physical interactions, things that most people take for granted such as using a touch screen or keyboard, or grasping an object. Hyperhidrosis is actually a wider spread complaint than you may think, you are not alone, in fact almost 5% of the population suffer with excessive sweating. From quality of life research on Hyperhidrosis, 80% of suffers report that the condition affects their performance at work, 42% saying that it has prevented them from following a career path, whilst a third of sufferers report that it has caused them to become frustrated in daily activities. These are just statistics, but if you are a sufferer, you will already understand the significant impact that Hyperhidrosis has had on your mental health, self-esteem, social interactions, physical interactions, relationships and occupational choices. Treatment is simple, (explained in detail in the user guide supplied with the device), and is identical to the treatment regime that you will have experienced if you have received treatment in the NHS.
In brief, the treatment for excessive sweating from Hands and/or Feet entails
- Connection of the equipment
- Placing the soft silicone electrodes in each tray
- Followed by the soft open-cell foam inserts
- Fill each treatment tray with only enough tap water so that when immersing the hands or feet, the palms or soles are completely wetted with water, as well as the lower third of the outer sides of the fingers and toes (about 0.8 to 0.9 l per tray).
- Set treatment parameters (Duration, Current setting, Current form & Direction of flow). Once these parameters have been set, the device will memorise the settings for your next treatment session. There is no requirement to re set each parameter for each treatment session (as is common with other Iontophoresis devices), if required, the settings can be altered for subsequent treatment sessions and will be memorised for subsequent use.
- The treatment session will start automatically when you place your hands in the trays, your feet in the trays, or both, depending which areas you are treating .
There are three phases to the treatment.
- In the initial phase, (between 10 & 14 days), treatment sessions will last either 10 minutes daily, or 15 minutes, if you choose to have 4 sessions per week. You will start to recognise the therapeutic effect of the treatment as your excessive sweating starts to reduce.
- In the second phase, your treatment session times and frequency will remain the same. Within21 & 28 days of starting the treatment, the therapy will reduce your sweating to a “normal” level.
- Once this has been achieved, you can maintain this”normalised ” level by decreasing the frequency of sessions to once or twice a week.
Iontophoresis is generally the 2nd line of treatment offered after clinicians or Dermatologists prescribe powerful Aluminium Chloride based Antiperspirants to treat Hyperhidrosis. It is offered as the 2nd line of treatment as other treatment options, Botox, Surgery, Nerve blocking medications, are far more invasive and expensive.
For your comfort
- The Saalio® device enables you to choose between vigorous direct current or a more relaxed pulsed current.
- You can select Therapy duration, Current level, Current form and direction.
- Current form is particularly important for Children, people with sensitive skin or when treating underarm Hyperhidrosis. Either direct current or pulsed can be selected for therapy. Many people tend to use the more relaxed pulsed current when they reach the “maintenance” stage of their treatment.
- You are not limited to preset values for Therapy duration, Current level, direction or style of Current delivery unlike other competitor devices.
- Uniquely in the Saalio® device, we use soft and large-area silicone electrodes with highly conductive graphite content. This guarantees that our electrodes are corrosion free and ideal for patients who have any allergy to metal.
- Our soft, open-cell foam inserts are extremely comfortable on the skin. They are machine washable and quick drying.
- Unique to the Saalio® system – Textile Electrodes, (available to treat other body regions, face, forehead, neck or torso), are ergonomically shaped fabric incorporating soft graphite fibres, which ensure uniform conduction of current, via the textile electrode, across the skin.
- Our trays are ergonomically formed to avoid tray edges digging into your wrist during your treatment session.
- Our Silicone/Graphite Electrodes , (unlike the metal electrode plates used in other devices), do not corrode or tarnish. Being soft silicone, our plates are differentiated from most other devices which use sharp-edged metal plates.
- The soft silicone/graphite electrodes are particularly effective when treating under arm sweating. This area is particularly sensitive (relative to palm & sole areas), common complaints with competitor’s metal electrodes are that they do not flex ergonomically into the underarm area and can cause burns to this sensitive part of the skin.
- Saalio® Electrodes (unlike competitor products), are soft and flexible, which makes them far more comfortable to use during a 15-20 minute therapy session.
For your safety
- The Saalio® device enables you to choose between vigorous direct current or a less strenuous pulsed current (preferred by many for maintenance sessions).
- The Saalio® Iontophoresis device features a built-in algorithm that automatically regulates current to prevent the so called “electric fence effect”, or sudden sharp electric shock when you break the circuit when moving hands or feet.
- You can remove your hands/feet from the the treatment trays at any time. The Saalio® device will detect this and will automatically start when you are ready to resume your therapy.
- The device will automatically regulate current if it detects “unnatural skin resistance.
- It constantly monitors, regulates & provides visual feed back on the therapy current flowing.
- The Saalio® system incorporates soft silicone/graphite electrodes which prevent exposure to any metal electrical contacts.
Simple to use with practical features
- Simplicity of use was one of the three key design elements that Saalmann, the German manufacturer, focussed on building into the device. It is very simple to use.
- The user guide supplied, describes in detail, the very simple steps required to connect the therapy equipment and to start your treatment.
- The device will “memorise” your last treatment settings. Subsequent treatment sessions simply require one touch of the device.
- The Hands & Feet set enables you to treat both your hands and your feet simultaneously, in the same 15-20 minute treatment session. Negating the need for a session for your hands and a further session for your feet, or the purchase of extra trays, unlike competitor products. Treat yourself in 20 minutes rather than 40.
- The Saalio® device enables you to choose the most appropriate Current (max. 30 mA), or Voltage (max. 58 V) for your therapy. These settings will be dependant on factors such as your own individual current tolerance as well as the hardness of water in your area.
- No preset current levels (such as in competitor devices), means that you can treat any part of your body at the most appropriate level for you.

Once you have seen a Dermatologist for excessive sweating , they may recommend a course of Iontophoresis which you can have at a dermatology centre within the NHS.

In the NHS your initial treatment sessions are generally limited, depending on which Health authority you fall under, for only around 7-9 treatment sessions. After this initial phase of treatment, you will need to purchase a Iontophoresis device of your own to continue the treatment.
